Rube Goldberg Machine
Project type
Electronics/Mechanism
Date
October-December 2025
Location
Northeastern University
As a team, we did this project as a portion of the class Rube Goldberg machine, where each group was responsible for one section that consisted of many consistent and creative steps, along with the transitions.
We started with inspiration from other various Rube Goldberg Machines, which helped shape our early ideas and how we went about the pre-test design. Initial prototypes involved A ramp similar in some ways to what we had in the final, the same servo gate idea, A printer, and a light sensor. When we actually started building this, we discovered that we didn't have a completely working step, or fit inside the size constraints. So we kept some of the principal ideas and scrapped the rest. As we redesigned step by step, we quickly moved closer to a slightly rougher version.
For our final design, we looked back at all our mistakes to make a better design. We fixed our code and secured the wiring for our electronics to ensure that our machine wouldn't accidentally set off. Additionally, we decorated our machine with office supplies to make sure that it fit with the office theme that the rest of the class.
